Instructions Wash and drain the meat pieces. Soak the meat in lemon juice for half an hour. Half cook the meat in a pot with just enough water, a tbsp of vinegar, 1/4 tsp of ground black pepper and curry leaves. Heat oil in a pan and stir fry the onions, curry leaves, garlic and green chillies(seeds removed) for 5 minutes until the ingredients look translucent. Crush the rest of the spices and add them into the pan. Continue to stir fry. Add the half cooked meat(but not the gravy). Add potatoes and enough water to cook the potatoes. Cook until the potatoes and the half cooked meat is done. Add the meat to gravy. Adjust vinegar and salt to your taste. Add one full cup of thick coconut milk. Do not allow the contents to boil once the coconut milk has been added. :- Mutton Stew is ready. :- Serve mutton stew with palappam or bread. Spicy Kerala Fish Curry (Meen Curry)17 comments Monica Varghese July 3, 2008 - 12:00 amI tried this recipe after reading all the positive comments and it came out good. It wasn`t very extra-ordinairy but it was definetely tasty. I thought the two step process was a little complicated (cook mutton in a pot and then frying separately but I managed it OK). The only thing I did different in this recipe is; I added 1 1/2 teaspoon more of Mutton Masala and instead of adding 1 cup coconut milk, I just added half a cup which was plenty. Overall, I would give this recipe a “B” grade. It had a nice, mild, Kerala style curry taste! Thanks! Reply ginu December 13, 2004 - 12:00 amIt is a good receipe. thanks Reply Veena May 12, 2005 - 12:00 amJust tried it..great recipe, perfect as it is. Real comfort food! December 7, 2005 - 12:00 am this kerala recipe of mutton stew is very deligous.taste is nice, colour nice Reply maya_fechtberg April 5, 2006 - 12:00 amwell, i`ve read all the comments and decided to make it. I added all the spices in a double quantity because of the person i made this for and it turned out to be very tasty, spicy though. I didn`t add the water to this stew, but the liquid, which i was boiling meat in at first, i wanted the taste of lemon to be strong. Thank you for the wonderful resipe, we enjoyed! I will definetely cook it again! Reply Milan Sunil December 25, 2006 - 12:00 amExcellent Mutton Stew. Perfect. Everybody please try this recipe.
