  • Raw Papaya(cut into 1" cubes, medium) - 1 no
  • Red gram(Thuvaraparippu) - 1 cup
  • Grated Coconut - 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Chilly powder - 2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds(Jeerakam) - 1 1/2 tsp
  • Salt(As reqd) -
For garnishing:-

Instructions
  1. Soak dal in hot water for 1 hr.
  2. Grind together coconut with cumin seeds and enough water into a fine paste.
  3. Cook dal and papaya together in pressure cooker along with salt, turmeric powder and chilly powder.
  4. Add ground coconut into the dal-papaya mixture and let it boil well.
  5. :- Make sure that the curry is a little thick.
  6. Heat oil in a fry pan.
  7. Splutter mustard seeds.
  8. Fry dry chillies and curry leaves.
  9. Add coconut and fry, till the coconut turns into dark golden.
  10. Add fried coconut to the dal-papaya-coconut mixture and mix well.
  11. :- Serve hot with rice.

wow! this recipe is too good. i tried it for vishu and no one knew that the main ingredient was pappaya. everyone thought that it was pumpkin. thanks a lot and do present more novel recipies like this…
