Pottalam Chicken Biriyani | Banana Leaf Chicken Biriyani | Kizhi Chicken Biriyani With video
Pottalam Chicken Biriyani is a unique recipe in Kerala. This biriyani is quite similar to traditional styled malabar biriyani. Cooked chicken is combined with steamed rice, boiled egg, coconut chamanthi and finally wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed in a steamer. You can discover a fantastic and aromatic flavor of Pottalam Chicken Biriyani wrapped in banana leaf. It's called Kizhi Chicken Biriyani both in malayalam and tamil. Also termed Banana Leaf Chicken Biriyani, this is one of the tastiest of biriyani dishes that can be prepared quickly. After steaming in banana leaves the flavors sink deep into the rice making the dish even more flavorful and aromatic. In a pan add 2 litres of water and add spices which are mentioned above: cloves, cinnamon and cardamon with few few mint and coriander leaves. Add required salt and boil water.
After water boils, add soaked rice and few drops of oil. Cook till it is 3/4 th cooked.
Now add marinated chicken along with masala and cook for 10 mins or until done.
Into the pressure cooker now add one layer of steamed rice and spread fried onion on top.
Next add second layer of rice on top and spread some mint and coriander. Add few drops of colours(turmeric powder mixed in some water) and ghee. Next cook for 10 minutes.
Now take banana leaf and heat slightly. Check video for reference.
Now chicken biriyani has been almost done. Open the lid.
In mean time boil eggs.
Now keep two to three portion of biriyani in a banana leaf.
Next add egg and chamanthi. Here i didn't keep chamanthi. And tie the bag with thread.
Now steam this banana bag in steamer for 5 mins to absorb the flavors fully.
Now it's ready to serve pottalam chicken biriyani or kizhi chicken biriyani.
