Chemmeen Theeyal or Prawns Theeyal is a prawns preparation with roasted coconut gravy. It is a good accompaniment with rice. This is a very famous and mostly wanted in the state of Kerala.

Instructions
  1. Clean and wash prawns.
  2. Dry roast grated coconut till it turns golden brown.
  3. Then add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and fenugreek powder.
  4. Roast for 2 more minutes in a low flame and remove from fire.
  5. After cooling this roasted coconut mixture, grind it into a fine paste.
  6. Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard, add curry leaves and dry red chillies.
  7. Saute sliced shallots and chopped green chillies till shallots become soft.
  8. Add prawns and saute for a while.
  9. Add the roasted coconut paste along with tamarind pulp, salt and required quantity of water. 10)Cook the dish in a medium flame till it reaches the required consistency.
  10. :- Remove from fire and serve hot with rice.
