  • Rice(washed and drained) - 1 cup
  • Onions(chopped) - 2 nos

  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 cup
  • Gram flour(Kadala podi) - 1 tbsp

Instructions
  1. For preparing punjabi namkeen chawal, cook the soaked gram in little water till soft & tender.
  2. Cool and mix well with your hands to mash.
  3. Add it to the ginger-garlic paste, chilly powder, turmeric powder, gram flour and salt. Mix well.
  4. Heat ghee in a pan, prepare small balls with the gram flour mixture and fry till golden. Drain and keep aside.
  5. Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pan and fry the onions, cardamoms, cloves, cinnamon, bay leaves and aniseeds till brown.
  6. Add the rice, fry for a while and cook with 2 cups of hot water till half done.
  7. Add the fried balls, cover and cook over a low flame till it is fully cooked.
  8. Punjabi namkeen chawal is ready.
