  • Ripe tomato(cut into pieces) - 4 nos
  • Onion(finely chopped, medium) - 2 nos
  • Shallots(Kunjulli) - 4 nos
  • Green chillies - 4 nos
  • Ginger(A small piece) -
  • Garlic pods - 4 nos
  • Curry leaves - 1 bunch
  • Salt(As reqd) -
  • Water(As reqd) -
  • Grated Coconut - 1 cup
  • Poppy seeds(Khashakhasha) - 5 gm
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
  • Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves(finely chopped) -

Instructions
  1. Grind together shallots, ginger, garlic pods and green chillies with a little water.
  2. Heat oil in a pan or kadai.
  3. Add the chopped onion and saute well, till it is softened.
  4. Add the ground mixture into it and saute well, till the raw smell leaves.
  5. Add salt, coriander powder, turmeric powder and the garam masala powder.
  6. Add tomato pieces and mix well, till the oil clears.
  7. Add a little water and cover with the lid.
  8. Keep it on low flame for 5 mins.
  9. Grind the coconut and poppy seeds together.
  10. Open the lid and pour the coconut mix along with a little more water.
  11. Allow it to boil well.
  12. Switch off the flame.
  13. Garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves.
  14. :- Serve hot with chappati or dosai.

hi …thanks fr the nice words. yeah..healthwise u can definitely use refined oil..but since it`s kerala cuisine only, i preferred coconut oil.

great curry..but i think u can use refined oil instead of coconut oil.a quick side dish for chappati or poori.thanks.

hi preeti…shallots are small onion or cheriya ulli(sambar venkayam in tamil).
