Sambar Pongal
, Variety type of pongal cooked with
raw rice
and vegetables.

Toovar dal
Tuvara parippu

Carrot

Drum stick

nos
Potato
Tamarind
lemon size

Coconut
grated
5
nos
Red chillies
2
tsp
Chana dal
kadalaparippu
2
tsp
Coriander seeds
1
tsp
Cumin seeds
Jeerakam
1
tsp
Mustard seeds
1
tsp
Turmeric powder
Salt
As reqd
1
tsp
Coconut oil
Instructions
For preparing sambar pongal, wash toovar dal and
raw rice
in
water
.
Cut
carrot
,
potato
and
drumstick
into small pieces.
Grind
coconut
,
red chillies
, chana dal,
coriander seeds
and
cumin seeds
. Soak
tamarind
in
water
and squeeze it out to make
tamarind
water
.
Add toovar dal, rice and vegetables into
tamarind
water
.
Add
turmeric powder
and
salt
.
Cook the item in pressure cooker.
Fry
mustard seeds
and
curry leaves
in
coconut oil
and add to the mixture.
Sambar pongal - Sambar Rice is ready.
