  • Onion(chopped) - 1 no
  • Cinnamon(Karugapatta) - 1 stick
  • Cloves(Grambu) - 1 no
  • Bay leaf(Karuga ela) - 1 no
  • Cumin seeds(Jeerakam) - 1/4 tsp
  • Cayenne pepper(ground) - 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Lemon juice - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves(Few, chopped) -
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp
  • Salt(As reqd) -

Instructions
  1. For preparing sukhi bengal gram/chana dal/kadalai parippu/kadale bele, first soak chana dal in water for one hour.
  2. Rinse and add 1 1/2 cup water, turmeric and required salt to chana dal and cook in medium heat until chana dal is just cooked. Remove from fire and keep aside.
  3. Heat ghee in a pan and saute cinnamon, clove, bay leaf, cumin seeds and cayenne pepper for a few seconds.
  4. Add chopped onion and fry till brown.
  5. Stir in cooked chana dal and mix gently. Cook covered in low heat for 5 more minutes.
  6. Sukhi bengal gram/chana dal/kadalai parippu/kadale bele is ready. Sprinkle lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves.
  7. Mix well and serve chana dal hot with rice or parathas.
