Instructions
  1. Soak dried chick peas overnight.
  2. Pressure cook it for 10 minutes with salt and water and keep aside.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai or a pan.
  4. Add mustard seeds and when they splutter, add cumin seeds and red chillies.
  5. Add chopped onions and fry till golden brown.
  6. Add ginger and garlic paste and fry till the raw smell goes away.
  7. Add all the masalas and fry for 2 minutes.
  8. Add 1 1/2 cups of water, tomato puree and the creamed coconut and let it boil.
  9. Add chopped potatoes and the cooked chick peas with the cooked water.
  10. Add salt to taste. Simmer for 15 mts or more till the potatoes are cooked.
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  12. :- Serve hot with rice and pappadam.

This is NOT the way you would make sundal kuzhambu. You can basically make ANY kulambu this way. Sundal kuzhambu is special. You have to grind some sundal with coconut and other spices coriander etc.. If you do not grind part of sundal and add it to Kuzhambu, you will never get the taste, or the aroma and consistency. Please update this recipe with this information.
