Sweet Bread Chattipathiri is an easy version of the authentic snack of Malabar region, very popular and greatly relished as an Iftar Special. Here I used bread instead of crepes, chappatis or rotis. Chatti pathiri is a famous classic malabar regional snack. It is made in both sweet and savory variations. Here I’m going to share the sweet version. Sweet Bread Chattipathiri snack reduces the preparation time a lot and gives a texture similar to layered cakes, but with the genuine, traditional, authentic flavour and aroma. You can regard this dish as an interesting and delightful variant of food fusion. This is an easy to prepare dish that saves much of your precious time and energy. This is a wholesome and healthy dish with richness of eggs and dry fruits. Kids love the sweet dish and you can be well assured that they are enjoying something healthy and nutritious. You can explore a well detailed recipe here that can be easily prepared at home.
Heat 2 tbsp of ghee in a bottomed thick vessel and roast cashew nuts and raisins.
Pour the previously prepared coconutmilk mixture and add black sesame seeds. Let's starts cooking in low to medium flame. When it starts to boil and thicken, remove it from the flame.
Using a spoon spread the egg mixture on top of the bread layer.
Again layer the bread slices and spread egg mixture. Continue with all the rest of the bread slices and egg mixture. Pour the remaining coconutmilkegg mixture on top of bread(a generous amount) so that it drains on all the gaps on sides and form a thin layer on top. This is important to keep the Chatti Pathiri moist. Now cover the top and cook it in low flame for 10-15 minutes.
All you have to do is to place it at a very low flame and flip it carefully to cook on the other side. The flipping becomes a bit easy when the lowest layer of bread is a little hard. When both the sides have cooked well, it is easy to slide it out of the pan into the serving plate. Flip it and cook for another 5-6 minutes and remove it from the flame.
