Instructions
  1. Rinse toovar dal and soak in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Chop the tomatoes fine and add to the toovar dal and boil in a pressure cooker 5 - 6 whistles.
  3. Heat oil and ghee in a pan over medium heat and add asafoetida, cumin seeds, minced garlic, chillies and curry leaves and fry for a minute.

  6. Add boiled dal, 1 cup water, turmeric powder and salt and simmer on a low flame for approximately 10 - 15 minutes.

  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with steamed rice.
