Tamil Nadu Rava Dosa

P

Tamil Nadu Rava Dosa is a popular and delectable delicacy that has gained immense popularity in India and abroad. The dish is a variant of the usual dosa dish and requires no fermentation and hectic preparations. The crispy and thin dosas are prepared from black gram, rice flour or maida and semolina. The dish stands out for its unique taste and texture. The key ingredient that has set apart Tamil Nadu Rava Dosa is rava or sooji. Semolina or rava is prepared from durum wheat and has a coarse texture, lending to a crispy and grainy texture to the dosa. This ingredient along with rice flour or maida, black gram and a unique combination of herbs and spices, makes Tamil Nadu Rava Dosa a satisfying and flavorful dish. While the usual traditional styled dosa requires fermentation, the Tamil Nadu Rava Dosa batter can be prepared instantly.

Tamil Nadu Rava Dosa batter has a pourable consistency which is then spread on a hot tawa or griddle. You can sprinkle some oil or ghee on the sides for enhanced taste and increased crispiness. The dosa is cooked on medium heat and flip over to the other side for balanced cooking. The final product is a thin lacey textured, golden brown dosa that can be cherished with your favorite chutney or sambar. The crispy texture compliments any flavorful side dish, creating a perfect harmony. Tamil Nadu Rava Dosa serves well as a breakfast option or even as a snack. Try the dish at home and do send me your valuable feedback. The popularity is attributed to the quick preparation, versatility and great taste. You are free to customize the dish adding chopped ginger and curry leaves thereby enhancing the flavor. Achieving the right crispiness and lacey patterns requires some practice.
