Tender Coconut Payasam

Tender Coconut Payasam is a delicious recipe with tender coconut pieces. Tender coconut is cooked with milk and sugar is added at a later stage. It is then flavored with nutmeg powder and cardamom.

  • Tender coconut(scraped from shell and cut into small pieces) - 2 cups
  • Cow’s milk - 1 litre
  • Sugar - 1 cup
  • Cardamom powder(Elakka) - 1/2 tsp
  • Nutmeg powder(Jathikka) - 1/2 tsp
  • Cornflour - 2 tbsp
  • Cashew nuts - 20 g
  • Raisins(Unakka munthiri) - 20 g
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp

Instructions
  1. For preparing tender coconut payasam, cook the coconut pieces in 1/2 cup water.
  2. When cooked, add milk to the coconut pieces and bring to boil.(Leave about 5 tbsp of milk for later use)
  3. Add sugar and wait for it to thicken a bit.
  4. Heat ghee in a pan, fry the nuts and raisins and pour into milk mixture.
  5. Take the 5 tbsp milk and mix cornflour in it. Pour into the milk mixture.
  6. Wait for it to boil and thicken. Remove from flame.
  7. Tender coconut payasam recipe is ready.
