Instructions
  1. Soak tamarind in 1/2 cup of warm water and take the extract from it.
  2. Heat 1 tsp of oil in a small pan.
  3. Saute coconut till brown.
  4. Add chilly powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, pepper powder and turmeric powder and stir fry till it gives an aroma.
  5. :- Be sure to simmer it, thus preventing masalas from getting burned too much.
  6. Keep aside and cool.
  7. Grind it to a smooth fine paste.
  8. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan.
  9. Splutter mustard seeds and saute curry leaves and whole red chillies.
  10. Add shallots, asafoetida, salt and fenugreek powder into it and saute for a while.
  11. Add tamarind extract into it and allow it to boil for 2 - 3 mins.
  12. :- If necessary, add water.
  13. Add the ground paste and sugar into it and simmer for furthur 4 - 5 mins.
  14. Switch off the stove and serve hot.
  15. :- Serve with rice.
  16. :- You can also use fenugreek seeds instead of powder, but u have to splutter it with the mustard seeds.
