Vazhakka Bajji is an awesome spicy fritter snack made with raw bananas. The thattukada delicacy goes very well with a cup of hot chai and this is the most economical as well as popular snack among Malayalees. This easy to prepare snack requires very minimum ingredients and can be prepared in a jiffy. Also termed Raw Banana Bajji, the dish is unique and special with thinly sliced raw bananas dipped in a thick spicy batter and deep fried to a brown color. Also fondly termed Kaya Bajji in God’s Own Country, the snack should be served hot with mint or coconut chutney. I love hot Vazhakka Bajji with a dash of mint chutney. The specialty of the snack is the sweet as well as savory taste enjoyed in each bite. There is good demand for Raw Banana Bajji during monsoon season when its raining heavily. People throng these thattukadas with the hope to savor something hot and refreshing.

I love these simple crispy Kaya Bajji during my evenings and now I fry these fritters right in my kitchen unlike my olden days when I used to rush after these street vendors.
