  • kadugu - 2 tbsp
  • Menthyl seeds(venthayam) - 1/2 tbsp
  • Red gram(Thuvaraparippu) - 1 tbsp
  • Onions(medium) - 3 nos
  • Sambar powder - 3 tbsp
  • Tamarind(A big lemon sized, Puli) -
  • Salt(As reqd) -
  • Curry leaves(A few) -
  • Asafoetida(Kayam) -

Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a tava.
  2. Add the cumin seeds, menthyl seeds and red gram.
  3. When the dhal becomes golden in colour, add the onions and fry them till it`s golden brown.
  4. Add the sambar powder and fry for 1 min.
  5. Add the tamarind paste (made in 3 cups of water).
  6. Add salt and allow it to boil for 10 - 15 mins, until it thickens to a gravy.
  7. Add curry leaves and asafoetida.
  8. :- Serve it with hot rice.
  9. :- You can use brinjal, drumstick too etc instead of onions.
